Hello Friends,
We are pleased to announce that WVMC has been named as one of the first community sites for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Affiliate Research Program (ARP).
On Friday, June 15, the NCCN sent out a press release. The press release announced seven sites nationally that will participate in the NCCN's Community Research program. WVMC is one of three community sites affiliated with the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) http://www.seattlecca.org/ that was chose, one of seven nationally.
The mission of the NCCN ARP is to improve patient outcomes and to advance medical science through clinical research conducted through collaboration among National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), the 21 NCCNMember Institutions, and their community-based affiliate networks. To date, the NCCN Oncology Research Program has received more than $36 million in research grants from pharmaceutical and biotech companies to support investigator-initiated trials.
What does this mean for patients in North Central Washington? Patients from NCW will have access to new and innovative cancer drugs! How awesome is that!
As many of you know, the SCCA is a organization made up of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, UW Medicine http://uwmedicine.washington.edu/Pages/default.aspx, and Seattle Children's Hospital. WVMC has been an affiliate with the SCCA since 2006.
The NCCN http://www.nccn.org/index.asp is a not-for-profit alliance of 21 of the world's leading cancer centers.
We are excited about that our oncology research program was chosen to lead community research through our NCCN and our SCCA affiliation. We are excited about advancing cancer care for our patients who are our friends, neighbors and family.
Best Regards,
Mitch
